You need only post your resume, but you are encouraged to update and enhance your personal
cyberspace. Guidelines for your resume:
- Submit a printed copy listing your URL
at the end of Wednesday's
class.
- If you have no personal cyberspace, try
free or Yahoo
Geocities.
- Include at least two active external links.
- Omit your phone number and mailing address.
- Link to your e-mail address, not your name.
- Reflect on adding your picture.
- Add to your source code:
- title
- meta name "keywords"
- meta name "description"
- ALT tags for images

You
should have an html editor such as Microsoft Front Page,
Dreamweaver or
Netscape Composer on your laptop
You should avoid:
-
horizontal scrolling on a 800 x 6000 screen
- copying from Word and pasting into FrontPage
- converting Word or Publisher documents via "Save As Html"
|
-
Microsoft FrontPage themes
- underlining and blue text (why?)
- complicated technologies that limit access
-
frames, animation and
flash

Positive feedback on past assignments includes:
- Great use of meta-tags.
- Clean resumes with crisp copy.
- Good use of anchors/bookmarks.
- Most used one - three simple fonts.
- Some used the latest design tools without going overboard.
Suggestions on past
assignment include:
- Go easy with colours, backgrounds and images.
- Remember the target audience. This is a CV, not a "my favourite
things" page.
- Less text is often better than more text.
- Think other layouts than align left and tons of vertical
scrolling.
- For long pages, include a bookmark/anchor back to the top.
- Personality is good, but don't go overboard.
- Double check how your page prints and appears on different
monitors, browsers, screen resolutions and operating
platforms.
- Double check
your links and images on someone else's computer.
- For long pages, include a bookmark/anchor back to the top.
